Tom Galley begann das Projekt Phenomena in den 80er Jahren und auf den ersten 3 Ausgaben gab es große Namen der Hardrock Szene (unter anderem Glenn Hughes, Cozy Powell, Don Airey, Neil Murray, Brian May, Mel Galley, John Wetton) zu bestaunen.

Auch bei dem vierten Phenomena Album (welches im Jahre 2006 erschien) hatte Galley wieder illustre Namen um sich geschart, vor allem was die Kategorie Sänger anbelangt. Neben Neueinsteiger Tony Martin (u. a. BLACK SABBATH) und Veteran Keith Murrell (MAMA´S BOYS) ist es dann vor allem Glenn Hughes (u. a. DEEP PURPLE), dessen Name im Booklet viel Freude auslöst.

Mit den ersten Tönen von Glenn Hughes ist das alte Feeling wieder da. Es werden dann auch tatsächlich die von ihm gesungenen Songs sein, die hier die PHENOMENA-Fahne hochhalten.

Mit “Killing For A Thrill” wird es dann sogar noch moderner als zu Beginn, und der Gesang geht fast in Richtung Rap, wechselt sich dann aber mit melodisch-relaxtem Refrain ab. Ein sehr guter, abwechslungsreicher Song !

“So Near So Far“ ist dann der erste deutliche PHENOMENA-Song, der perfekt auf dem zweiten Album hätte stehen können. Feinster AOR also.
Das von Tony Martin gesungene “Chemical High” ist ein weiteres Highlight und das treibende “Higher”, auf dem wieder Hughes zu hören ist, überrascht mit leicht abgefahrenen Keyboards im Mittelteil und einer in Richtung Metal marschierenden Gitarre.

Mit “60 Seconds” folgt ein Hammersong mit weiblichem Gesang und ausgefeiltem Songaufbau, der sogar für Fans von AYREON interessant sein könnte.
Danach das mit spacigem Anfang heranrauschende “Crazy Groove“, das im Refrain seinem Namen alle Ehre macht - einer der abgefahrensten PHENOMENA-Tracks überhaupt.
Das nachdenkliche “How Do You Feel” hätte nicht nur wegen des Gesangs von Glenn Hughes auf ein DEEP PURPLE Album gepasst und auch die beiden Abschlusssongs sind wieder sehr rockig gehalten - Tony Martin hat hier mit “God Forgives“ das letzte Wort.

For the fourth Phenomena album (which was released in 2006), Galley had again gathered illustrious names around him, especially in the category of singers. Besides newcomer Tony Martin (among others BLACK SABBATH) and veteran Keith Murrell (MAMA'S BOYS), it is above all Glenn Hughes (among others DEEP PURPLE), whose name in the booklet causes a lot of friends.

 

With the first notes of Glenn Hughes the old feeling is back. It will actually be the songs sung by him that hold up the PHENOMENA flag here.

With "Killing For A Thrill" it becomes even more modern than at the beginning, and the vocals almost go in the direction of rap, but then alternate with melodic-relaxed chorus. A very good, varied song!

 

"So Near So Far" is the first clear PHENOMENA song that could have been on the second album. The finest AOR.

Chemical High", sung by Tony Martin, is another highlight and the driving "Higher", on which Hughes can be heard again, surprises with slightly wacky keyboards in the middle section and a guitar marching towards metal.

 

With "60 Seconds" follows a hammer song with female vocals and sophisticated song structure, which could even be interesting for fans of AYREON.

Then comes "Crazy Groove" with a spacey beginning, which lives up to its name in the chorus - one of the wackiest PHENOMENA tracks ever.

The thoughtful "How Do You Feel" would have fit on a DEEP PURPLE album, not only because of Glenn Hughes' vocals, and the two closing songs are again very rocky - Tony Martin has the last word here with "God Forgives".
